Tastes unlike Christmas

Cannabis is partially legalized in Germany, the Traffic Light Coalition sees red and Donald Trump beats Kamala Harris in the race for the White House – 2024 was a year of change. Packed with WTF moments and positive chaos. Lots of upheaval, even more change.
I’d like to continue this spirit of change seamlessly. That's why I'm calling on all wine lovers to break with Christmas traditions this year. But no need to panic. No one needs to replace their beloved Christmas roast with a fake meat loaf made from pea protein, put up a plastic palm in the living room instead of the good old Christmas tree fir or question Santa's pronouns while George Michael is mumbling ‘Last Christmas’ into the silent night.
"Life is too short to sip the same wine every year."
We simply throw the liquid menu overboard and spank Christmas drinking patterns with Knecht Ruprecht's rod until they glow red like Reindeer Rudolph's nose. Life is too short to sip the same wine every year. Alright? Alright!
It should be clear that I don't touch industrial wines. Château Garbage, liquid headache and industrial Primitivo that tastes like artificial jam don't make it into my glass. But we also leave out the typical X-Mas classics.

Instead of heavy Bordeaux, I drink juicy Gamay from Beaujolais and Lagrein from South Tyrol, which is ideal for the festive season with its delicately spicy notes. Perfect with lamb's lettuce with bacon and croutons or Christmas goose? A skin contact Pinot Grigio from Trentino, which is quite unorthodox during the Christian holidays, but goes excellently with Christmas-spiced poultry. Instead of Champagne, I opt for Sekt from Germany and a cider from local orchards to accompany the baked apple. Sexy, isn't it?
